Vasectomy

Vasectomy is the male sterilisation procedure. Men decide to have this operation if they, in conjunction with their partner, decide that they have completed their family or do not want to risk an unexpected addition to their family.

The operation may be performed under local or general anaesthetic. Dr. Canagasingham generally performs this operation under general anaesthetic in hospital as a day procedure.

Most men are able to resume normal activities within 2-3 days. It is very important to understand that alternate contraception should be continued until a seminal fluid sample is examined in the laboratory at 12 weeks after surgery to confirm there are no sperm in the specimen.

A detailed information pamphlet will be provided at the time of your consultation.
